‘Gtech protect their new HQ with a HD CCTV system’

Over the past 16 years, Nick Grey and his team of experts have been pushing the boundaries of innovation in vacuum cleaners, carpet sweepers and cordless garden tools, making Gtech the successful company it is today.

The new HQ in Worcester is home to experts in Design, Engineering, Purchasing, Finance and Customer Support, IT and Marketing. Globally, they have sold over 20 million sweepers through international partners making them experts in their field.  When Gtech moved to the new HQ in Worcester Ecl-ips were contacted to provide a security and safeguarding solution.

Ecl-ips is an established security installer who specialise in IP security systems and have worked with many organisations of all sizes with regards to their security requirements.  Ecl-ips are an authorised Avigilon partner and were introduced to Gtech to help find a security solution.  Having met with David Bates from Gtech we were able to understand the issues that Gtech faced and what they were trying to achieve from their surveillance system, which was to primarily discourage crime and anti-social behaviour and also to safeguard the staff.

Gtech HQ is a large building with a number of areas that needed to be monitored by the CCTV system which included the main entrance, car park, cycle track, delivery area, rear of building, reception, showroom and the customer service area.

There were a number of factors that Ecl-ips needed to consider.  Following the site survey with David Bates, Gtech’s Head of IT, the cameras needed to provide detailed images to enable identification of people and also vehicle number plates at the main entrance.  Taking into consideration the requirements for The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS Compliance) we needed to ensure that the payment, storage, processing and transmitting of cardholder data, was hosted securely.

Taking into account all of Gtech’s requirements Ecl-ips designed a bespoke security solution using various cameras to make sure the views that David had requested were able to be captured.   A Fisheye camera was also installed in the training area to give a 360 degree view and audio recording.

“Not only were Ecl-ips more local to us, they were very competitive with their quote too!” David added “I already knew of Aaron Kernaghan, MD at Ecl-ips,  due to the purchase of our new site and his relationship with the previous occupier. However, I did obtain quotes for Avigilon systems from other vendors around the UK, before choosing Ecl-ips.”

The Gtech design needed to be a robust and substantial solution to work with the new build and refurbishment plans that were in place.  Due to the nature of all refurbishments at times this was a fluid arrangement that meant Ecl-ips needed to be flexible.  The first phase was to install external cameras closely followed by internal cameras within the customer service areas.  Phases 2 and 3 concentrated on the cycle track and new car parking areas.  In order to provide enough flexibility, bandwidth and resilience 2 x Avigilon Servers were installed.

Since the system has been installed a number of incidents have been captured by the new cameras including: evidence of vandalism, accidental damage and theft of cycles.  A delivery driver reversed the van into a wall and knocked it over and individuals were  also caught on camera rallying their cars around the grounds.  All of these incidents were captured on camera and dealt with very quickly and efficiently due to the CCTV footage.

David Bates said “The best thing about our system is the ease of use, both in finding clips and then exporting them in all formats.”  He added “Ecl-ips have been great throughout the whole process and I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone considering buying a CCTV system.
