With growing concern about the high numbers of young people vaping, and about illicit vapes, monitoring vaping to protect air quality and the health of others within buildings is becoming more important.

Importance of accuracy in vape detection

Traditional smoke detectors would not be sufficient to pick up vaping and sensors that monitor air quality are also unlikely to be accurate enough. Therefore, to detect vaping you need a device that has a range of accurate sensors that you can have confidence in.

The HALO Smart Sensor, manufactured in the US by IPVideo Corporation, now owned by Motorola Solutions, uses a dynamic vape detection algorithm to learn about the environment and alert when vaping is detected. The HALO has up to 16 sensors to perform multiple detections, and the hundreds of combinations it detects expands its capabilities to be able to differentiate between substances as well.

This level of accuracy means the HALO is the only vape detector that can alert and differentiate between vaping, vaping with THC, and intentionally masking vaping, for example, by using aerosols to cover up vaping.

Key vape detection features of the HALO Smart Sensor

The key features of the HALO Smart Sensor that ensure you can detect all vaping and be aware of other health risks in your building are:

  • Ability to detect all features of vapes, including heat not burn
  • Vape Notification (via email) in less than 8 seconds
  • THC detection
  • Mask detection
  • Detection of smaller airborne particulate matter (a mix of particles and droplets in the air) than rival sensors
  • Health monitoring, which includes detection of carbon dioxide
  • Air Quality Monitoring, including carbon monoxide detection
  • Option to view alerts and see device history in HALO cloud via an annual subscription, but also able to operate as standalone devices.

Locations that can benefit from vape detection

Locations that could benefit from monitoring of vaping include schools, colleges, hotels, shops, bars, leisure centres, commercial offices, stadiums as well as healthcare settings and residential care homes. The HALO Smart Sensor is ideal for an installation in private areas which would be unsuitable for other forms of surveillance. This includes toilets and changing rooms.
