We are excited to be sponsoring, and taking part, in a Golf Day on 10th September fundraising for Veterans Can…, a social enterprise run by and for veterans.
Our managing director, Aaron Kernaghan, a keen golfer, is leading our team in the competition which has a shot gun start. This is being held at the Twenty Ten course at Celtic Manor located in the Usk Valley, near Newport in Wales. This golf course was the location of the 2010 Ryder Cup competition when Europe narrowly beat the United States.
Prizes will be awarded for performances at particular holes such as the straightest drive at 4th hole, nearest pin on the 13th and the longest drive on the 18th. Following the golf there will be further fundraising events including Head or Tails, an auction and raffle held at the hotel. Money raised on the day will go towards funding a team from the UK Veteran community to join the Veteran Games in Australia.
Veterans Can..was set up in 2024 as a not-for-profit community interest company (CIC) which veterans join through a membership scheme. Veteran members can become part of a community to deliver projects and can access the CIC’s events for free. Its first golf day took place at the Belfry in October 2024.
Its work aims to change a negative perception of veterans and instead celebrate them. The CIC brings veterans together with a determination to talk and act positively, support each other and do good, not just in the UK but globally as well.
This will be the second Golf Day that we have sponsored, and taken part in, this year, following the Edward’s Trust charity golf event in July. At that event Aaron managed to win the nearest pin award, while another team member, Matt Barnett, won the longest, straightest drive award. Ecl-ips has been supporting the bereavement charity’s golf day since 2019.
