ARC monitoring: Extra security to protect your property

If you have a larger residential or a commercial property then you will need to make extra efforts with your security to protect the building and grounds. This will include a reliable intruder alarm system and probably a surveillance camera system too.

Should you suffer from a break-in, you need to be sure that you are fully covered by your insurance company. To be properly protected it is likely your insurer will require you to have remote monitoring by an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC).

This is a monitoring station, manned by people 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Teams who work in ARCs monitor a range of systems, including fire and intruder alarms, systems for monitoring elderly people, and CCTV cameras. The ARC will provide an extra layer of security and added peace of mind.

If your intruder alarm is triggered our ARC will receive an activation signal. The monitoring team carefully filter activations to sort which alerts are false alarms and which alarms require a police response.

For you to be confident in the ARC, it, as well as the intruder alarm installer and system manufacturer, needs to be compliant in the British Standard BS 8243. This is cited within the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s (NPCC) policy, which requires alarms to be confirmed in order to qualify for a police response.

Meanwhile, the intruder alarm installer needs to be fully compliant with the standard to obtain a unique reference number (URN) from the Police for your premises. This is also a necessary requirement for you to have a police response if that is needed.

Having monitoring by an ARC will mean that after staff have left for the evening any unusual activity, such as a break-in, can be detected and if necessary, someone can be contacted to take action. If you do not require a police response, the ARC can notify nominated keyholders or a keyholding service.
