Monitoring

Cloud-connected monitoring solutions provide users with flexibility to manage security and IT systems centrally and remotely when required.

What is cloud-connected monitoring?

Cloud-based monitoring allows operators to manage systems remotely and to receive alerts when there are problems. This includes intruder alarm monitoring via an alarm receiving centre (ARC) as well as platforms that can ensure that security and IT systems are operating as they should.

Security Monitoring

Security monitoring provide an extra layer of support and back-up to your systems. If you have a more challenging property or particularly valuable assets then remote monitoring is likely to be required by your insurer. Beyond this the monitoring is likely to give you extra peace of mind.

Intruder Alarm Monitoring

Remote monitoring, via a standards-compliant Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), provides you with the peace of mind to know that wherever you are, what ever time of day it is, your commercial or large residential property is properly protected. If your property contains high value goods, or is likely to be a target for burglars then remote monitoring by an ARC will provide an extra layer of security.

Our ARC will receive an activation signal if your intruder alarm is triggered. The monitoring team carefully filter activations to sort which alerts are false alarms and which alarms require a police response. We can also offer monitoring of your CCTV system and this works particularly well for large or exposed sites.

The team in our remote monitoring centre will provide a response such as to:

  • notify nominated keyholders
  • notify a linked keyholding service and/or
  • notify the Police in the event of a confirmed alarm signal although you may choose not to have this option.

Fibre optic perimeter intrusion detection

Large commercial and residential properties can be provided with extra perimeter protection with fence-mounted fibre optic cables supplied by Future Fibre Technologies. These can be used to detect and pinpoint the location of disturbances including cutting, climbing and lifting.

Fibre optic sensors work by transmitting light through the glass core of a cable, travelling by reflecting off the casing. Controllers rack mounted in server rooms or IT spaces emit and receive laser light and applies complex algorithms, including to detect and
identify intrusion type and location.

The controllers will convert the light into a signal to trigger an alarm, and can use computer logic to ensure it is not a false alarm first. Monitoring software allows this information to be displayed in real-time so security personnel can take action quickly if  an intrusion is detected.

Real-time monitoring

Driving a car without a dashboard would be difficult, how would we know when to fill the fuel tank without a fuel gauge? Businesses. schools and large properties require effective rack-based environmental monitoring systems to make sure that all of the support systems are running efficiently. Early warnings of potential issues within the IT infrastructure are essential to ensure that the business can operate both efficiently and effectively.

At Ecl-ips we believe that all of the data that we collect should be available at the touch of a button, rather than being distributed across systems.

Vape, Safety And Health Smart Sensor

The HALO smart sensor from IPVideo Corporation provides you with a three-in-one health, safety and vape detection device. It discreetly detects threats such as vaping, cannabis smoke and harmful gases or so you can take action to protect others. When we install the HALO smart sensor and vape detector we can connect you to HALO Cloud. This allows you to manage multiple devices, receive real-time Health Index and air quality alerts and reporting, and see alerts and historical data, so you can document your building’s health status and trouble areas. The HALO is always monitoring each space 24/7, with no delay, instant notifications and alerts. This gives you the peace of mind to know you can protect people at all times of day and will be notified in real-time if an incident occurs.

UPS Systems

With a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) system you will have a seamless transition between mains power failure and a battery backup.

Power failure resulting in network downtime can cost businesses substantial sums in revenue; in addition, data lost during those power failures is often not recoverable. UPS Systems provide power protection by instantly responding to outages and can support equipment until mains power is available or a generator is active.

You can monitor your UPS systems using the cloud to an report information that is relevant to the integrity of the system, such as battery condition, run-time remaining, load levels, input voltage etc.

monitor your server room

Server Room Monitoring

Real-time monitoring solutions can monitor a range of environmental and other factors which otherwise could cause disruption for your business.

  • Are you concerned about your air conditioning system or that you may have a leak in your server room? If you are, we can supply humidity sensors, temperature sensors and fluid detectors.
  • If you have staff access issues within your server room you may need door monitoring, cameras for visual audits and rack access control.
  • Environment monitoring for IT equipment is recommended by hardware manufacturers
  • You can also receive any alerts, alarms or notifications via SMS or email

Rack Access Control

People are essential to the operation of a data centre, but, according to Schneider Electric, studies show that people are directly responsible for 22% of data centre downtime through accidents or mistakes. That means finding effective access control solutions throughout the data centre premises right down to the racks where appliances sit, that balances the level of protection required with the cost, is vital. This need to protect IT appliances extends to the server room or other IT rooms within business premises.

Essentially an effective access control system needs to reliably answer the question who are you and why are you here? If you are extending access control to the rack level the APC Rack Access Control solution should provide you with peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is server room monitoring?

Server room monitoring is the active monitoring of your critical IT spaces, to ensure your systems that your organisation relies on, continue safely and efficiently. This is predominantly environmental monitoring but also covers power monitoringintruder detection and camera surveillance.

Why do I need to monitor my server room or IT spaces?

Business premises require effective real-time monitoring systems to make sure that all of the support systems are running efficiently. Early warnings of potential issues are essential to ensure that the business can operate both efficiently and effectively.

What can real-time monitoring solutions detect?

Real-time monitoring solutions can detect a range of environmental factors which otherwise could cause disruption for your business. For example, IT equipment overheating, fluids or leaks, high humidity or fire or smoke. This real-time monitoring is recommended by hardware manufacturers to ensure your IT systems are not disrupted.

Is it really necessary to monitor my server room?

With the development of the cloud for data storage there are now more large data centres filled with servers.

Although Ecl-ips has installed APC Netbotz devices in data centres, the remote sites and smaller comms rooms are the places that really benefit and should not be ignored. We have been to various sites to install security devices and been able to offer APC Netbotz devices because we can demonstrate the value that server room monitoring will provide. For example, a server or a critical switch, may have been located in a cupboard that has become used for other purposes, creating a sub-optimal environment.

How can Ecl-ips help me with server room monitoring?

Ecl-ips is a specialist in the solutions from APC NetBotz and would recommend its products for effective server room monitoring. Their appliances offer an active, scalable monitoring solution designed to protect against physical threats, environmental or human, that can cause disruption to IT assets. To help you obtain the right monitoring equipment we have put together cost-effective APC Comms Room Monitoring packages.

What businesses will benefit from server room monitoring?

Server room monitoring will benefit organisations in the education, finance, healthcare, banking and insurance sectors as well as businesses with multiple branches such as pharmacies that may have one remote IT team. Ecl-ips has been involved in providing APC Netbotz systems for several companies including AON, the BBC, Network Rail, the London Underground, Birmingham City Council, JLT, Wychavon District Council and BT.

What are the risks to my business of losing power?

Power spikes or outages can cause costly downtime for your business and mean data is lost.

What is perimeter protection?

Perimeter protection is the first line in the defence to prevent an intruder entering your site but can also refer to the first line in detection of an intruder should they be able to enter the site and attempt to break-in to a building. Ecl-ips can advise you on the different options you can use to keep your property secure from the perimeter to inside the building.

How will we assess your perimeter security?

Depending on the risk factors and your security priorities, protecting your boundaries could involve a range of measures, such as:

  • Installing bollards and physical barriers at entry points which can be integrated with CCTV and access control systems
  • Installing Intruder Alarm System Detectors along the perimeter which can be integrated with CCTV systems and security lighting
  • Remote monitoring via our ARC, to provide 24/7 coverage of your site. This can be combined with advanced CCTV and intruder alarm systems which allow you to manage site security effectively.

What is the best approach to take to protect my site?

A combination of security systems – such as CCTV, intruder alarm and  access control measures along with remote monitoring – are the ideal way to provide vital prevention especially when risk levels are elevated.
