A recent global survey of businesses by insurer, Allianz, revealed that cyber incidents such as ransomware attacks, data breaches, and IT disruptions were their greatest worry. Schneider Electric said that companies are making themselves vulnerable to cyber-attacks by their failure to keep up to date with their firmware and often they are unaware when updates are available.
The IT infrastructure specialist’s Network Management Card (NMC) platform enables device-level remote monitoring and management of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, power distribution units (PDU) and cooling devices via an easy-to-use web browser interface. Schneider has recently improved the NMC platform by introducing proactive firmware management with a new Secure NMC System Tool. The Secure System (SNS) protects businesses by ensuring their connected devices are certified to the highest cybersecurity standards (IEC 62443-4-2).
Schneider said that while the IEC 62443 series of standards had existed for some years certification had been rare for manufacturers of UPSs, data centre cooling units, power distribution units, etc., and their software management systems.
