UK access control manufacturer, Paxton, has released Net2 v7, the latest version of its flagship software that introduces some important changes.
To enhance the security of the software, multi-factor authentication (MFA) is now included. This means users will need to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource, like an online account. For those that take advantage of the Paxton app to access their Net2 platform they will need to use Paxton Connect v4.0 or higher with their MFA enabled system.
Meanwhile, users also need to be aware that the Net2 v7 software will not support Net2 Classic door controllers. Therefore, if you want to take advantage of any new features you will need to upgrade Net2 Classic controllers to Net2 Plus controllers.
The latest software that you can have on Net2 Classic systems is Net2 v6.9. Net2 Classic door controllers have been unavailable to buy in the UK since January 2014 and have been out of warranty since 2019.
If a Paxton Net2 system has a mixture of controllers, users will receive a pop-up message when they log into Net2 v6.9 which will inform them of how many Net2 Classic door controllers are on the system. They will also be able to export a list with the name and serial number of all the Net2 Classic door controllers on the system.
Supporting the transition to Net2 v7
We would advise our customers upgrade to Net2 Plus controllers, that come with a five-year warranty, to take advantage of the improvements in Net2 v7. However, we will continue to be able to support all clients, whatever controller they have.
It is always important to have the latest version of the software available, to protect security and guarantee the effectiveness of the access control system, so users who continue to have Net2 Classic controllers should ensure they have upgraded to v6.9. We can work with all our customers to upgrade their systems and to ensure they are making the most of them.
We are platinum partners of Paxton Access and have worked with them since 2012. Net2 is available as free software when we install the access control system but if you need added features, such as occupancy management and a security lockdown, you can pay to upgrade to Net2 Pro.
