Avigilon: Advanced video analytics drives CCTV performance

Self-learning Video Analytics provides reliable protection

Avigilon‘s advanced smarter video analytics for its CCTV solution can help you detect a range of occurrences and monitor your site in various ways:

  • Detect a car driving the wrong way round a car park
  • Alert you if anyone is loitering on your property
  • Be able to count people
  • Detect an object

Technology improves monitoring of CCTV cameras

The Avigilon software is defined by  the use of high definition (HD) video analytics, pattern-based analytics algorithms and teach by example capabilities. The technology is therefore able to counteract some of the problems that are found if only human operators are monitoring cameras. For example a 1999 study (Green, 1999) found that after 20 minutes, guards watching a video scene will miss up to 95 percent of all activity. Meanwhile a 2008 study (Sulman, Sanocki, Goldgof, & Kasturi, 2008)  found that there are severe limitations in the ability of humans to monitor simultaneous signals. The results of the study showed that observers miss 60% of targets when monitoring nine displays versus only 20% when monitoring four displays.

Avigilon says its HD video analytics solution combined with advanced video pattern detection technology addresses human attention span and target identification challenges in four ways:

1. By deploying pattern modelling filters detection to known objects

2. By providing users with alarms that are relevant and of interest through its highly accurate object detection

3. By reducing total camera count and increasing  operator target identification ability through appropriately deployed high resolution cameras

4. By providing high-definition video images that are rich in detail to produce the evidence required to take appropriate action.

Unlike standard industry analytics solutions which analyses footage in standard definition, Avigilon says it utilises its knowledge in managing high definition video to analyse in full HD resolution, without any encoding or loss of quality – resulting in far greater accuracy and a higher level of protection to keep your assets safe and secure.

Avigilon’s analytics solutions provide a higher degree of accuracy in object notification, due to its patented technologies. Avigilon’s advanced video pattern-based algorithms are able to accurately recognise the movements and characteristics of people and vehicles while ignoring any activity that isn’t relevant to a scene. Teach by example technology allows users to provide feedback about the accuracy of alarms to refine the device’s self-learning capabilities. These sharper, smarter technologies provide far greater accuracy and fewer false alarms.

Ability to integrate Avigilon technology with third-party IP cameras

It is possible to use Avigilon’s technology with an existing third party IP camera by acquiring the Avigilon Artificial Intelligence Appliance. This adds patented self-learning video analytics and its appearance search to nearly any IP camera. When connected to Avigilon Control Center (ACC) software, customers can evolve legacy camera systems into powerful AI solutions — with automatic alerts of potentially critical events and the ability to search for and locate a person or vehicle of interest across an entire site.

Ecl-ips is a well-established security specialist which partners with Avigilon to provide complete CCTV solutions.  Our engineers are specialists in the ACC software and camera capabilities and we are so confident in Avigilon’s CCTV solution we offer a week’s free trial.
